  • Ubisoft introduces Vantage Studios to oversee Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six franchises.
  • Tencent invested $1.26 billion in this Ubisoft subsidiary earlier this year, owning a 25% stake.

Ubisoft has unveiled Vantage Studios, a new creative house that’s now in charge of some of the publisher’s biggest series, including Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six.

The studio will be led by Charlie Guillemot and Christophe Derennes as co-CEOs, and will bring together teams from Ubisoft studios in Montréal, Quebec, Sherbrooke, Saguenay, Barcelona, and Sofia.

The idea here with Vantage Studios is to give development teams more room to shape their projects directly, while still making use of Ubisoft’s tech, tools, and expertise.

This move is part of Ubisoft’s larger plan to “group its brands and franchises under the banner of a shared DNA and development expertise”. Tencent has invested heavily in Ubisoft, owning a significant share of its new subsidiary with its $1.26 billion influx, announced back in March this year, for the very same subsidiary.

Ubisoft says this new setup will help build stronger connections between players and developers, allowing fans of these popular series to be more involved. Thousands of developers are already part of this initiative, many of whom have worked on Ubisoft’s biggest hits.

With Tencent’s strong experience in live-service and mobile games, this connection could eventually mean we see stronger mobile experiences for Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six, beyond the current spin-offs like Rainbow Six Mobile and The Division Resurgence.

For now, Vantage Studios is all about giving Ubisoft’s biggest brands a fresh direction, but with Tencent as the minority stake brings a lot of promise. If both companies align well, it could lead to faster releases, more ambitious mobile projects, and possibly even AAA-quality titles designed for mobile and cross-platform play.
