Kuro Games has announced a major creative collaboration with Beijing Yuanyu Science Fiction Future Technology Research Institute. The announcement was made at the 2026 China Science Fiction Convention, which ran from March 27th to March 29th.
The partnership will see the institute take on a key role in supporting world-building efforts, working alongside Kuro Games to contribute to the storytelling direction of the studio’s projects, including the open-world action RPG Wuthering Waves.
The collaboration is expected to help shape the science fiction framework and add greater narrative depth to ongoing and future stories. The institute brings together some of China’s leading science fiction scholars and creators, and is known for its focus on advancing sci-fi research, literary creation, and industry development.
As part of the collaboration, both sides will engage in multiple initiatives, including co-creation of science fiction content and IP development, technology-driven experimental projects, and efforts to promote Chinese science fiction on a global scale.
There was some initial confusion surrounding the announcement, with early reports suggesting a different form of collaboration with Liu Cixin, Kuro Games has now clarified that the agreement is officially with the Beijing Yuanyu Science Fiction Future Technology Research Institute, where Liu Cixin serves as President.
While the exact extent of his involvement in Wuthering Waves remains to be seen inside the game, the narrative-driven direction is expected to be amazing with plenty of sci-fi elements.
