  • Supercell plans to fully acquire Metacore and add Merge Mansion to its live games portfolio.
  • Merge Mansion, launched in 2020, is a hit merge 2 experience with a large global player base.
  • Meanwhile Metacore confirmed restructuring, with up to 160 roles potentially impacted in Finland.

Supercell has announced plans to acquire the remaining stake in Metacore and bring its flagship title, Merge Mansion, into its live games portfolio.

The Finnish developer, known for hits like Clash of Clans, Clash Royale, and Brawl Stars, has been an investor in Metacore since 2018. With this move, Supercell is looking to have a complete involvement by fully integrating Merge Mansion into its ecosystem and expanding its reach among casual players.

Launched in 2020, Merge Mansion has built a strong global player base, with millions of users returning to the game over several years. The title is widely recognized as a pioneer in the Merge 2 genre, combining puzzle mechanics with narrative-driven progression.

At the same time, Metacore has announced plans to restructure its organization as it shifts focus back to its core product. While Merge Mansion remains stable with a loyal audience, its growth has slowed in recent years, and the company’s efforts to launch new titles have not delivered expected results.

As part of the restructuring, Metacore confirms it may reduce up to 160 roles in Finland while also reviewing its operations in Germany and Sweden. The company said the changes are aimed at improving operational efficiency and responding to increasing competition in the market.

Ilkka Paananen, CEO of Supercell, said Merge Mansion has maintained a strong core loved by players for over five years, built by a team that helped pioneer the merge-2 genre. He added, “I believe Merge Mansion’s best days are still ahead. With Supercell’s experience turning around and scaling global live games, alongside our capabilities in live operations and user acquisition, we can help it climb back to the top of its category, where it belongs.”

Stating that the company’s growth ambitions have not materialized as expected, Mika Tammenkoski, CEO of Metacore, said that with competition intensifying since the launch of Merge Mansion, it has prompted the need for changes to stay competitive. “Making a turnaround after stalled growth will take hard work and new thinking. We trust that we can supercharge Merge Mansion together. I believe Supercell is the best future home for Merge Mansion,” he concluded.

Despite these challenges, both companies see long-term potential in Merge Mansion and the broader Merge 2 category, which continues to grow and attract more competition. Supercell plans to use its expertise in live operations and user acquisition to scale the game further and strengthen its position in the category.
