Google Play is getting a major refresh, and this time it’s all about “you”. Instead of just being a store for apps and games, Play has announced that it is turning into a personalized hub that combines gaming, rewards, entertainment, and community in one place.
This announcement comes after Google improved the Google Play Points experience in the UK. A big highlight is the new Play Games experience. Your gamer profile now carries across devices, with stats, achievements, and even AI-generated avatars that let you show off your style.
As announced before, Play Points rewards are also expanding, with leagues where you can compete in games to earn points. Another big change is with the introduction of the Sidekick feature, a new in-game overlay powered by Google’s very own Gemini AI.
Instead of leaving your game to search for guides, you can ask Sidekick for tips in real time. It understands what’s happening on your screen and offers suggestions without breaking your flow. This will roll out in select games soon.
Community features are also getting stronger. Game pages will now show your progress, upcoming events, and even a Q&A section where players can get tips. On top of that, Google Play Games on PC, available for 120+ countries since 2023, is officially out of beta, with over 200,000 titles available across mobile and desktop.
To bring it all together, Google Play is introducing the You tab. This will be your personal space with rewards, subscriptions, recommendations, and updates tailored to your interests. The Apps tab is also getting upgrades with entertainment sections and seasonal hubs, making it easier to discover new content around trending topics and cultural moments.
These updates are rolling out now, starting in select Play Points markets, as additional countries will be added on October 1st, 2025. The speculations of Google Play Games getting sunset turned out to be true, however, in a good way with lots of improvements coming.
