  • Indie Jam 2026 returns on April 4 and 5 at Management and Science University (MSU).
  • The event set to feature 60 indie games and demos from studios across Southeast Asia.
  • This marks one of the largest ASEAN indie showcases hosted in Malaysia.

Indie Jam is bringing its fourth edition to Management and Science University (MSU) on April 4th and 5th, in partnership with the MSU Engage Talent Sync Expo 2026. Organised by The Magic Rain, the annual showcase continues its mission to spotlight and support independent game developers across Southeast Asia.

The speciality of this year’s edition is that it will feature one of Malaysia’s largest indie game showcases to date, with 60 playable games and demos from studios across Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Brunei.

The lineup also includes titles from regional partners such as Goldpact Goblins, Ysbryd Games, and Soft Source Publishing. Visitors can explore all showcased games for free throughout the weekend, as well as support developers online through the official Indie Jam Steam event.

Nathalie Tay, founder of Indie Jam, shared that Indie Jam remains community-driven at heart even as it grows bigger. “We have the pleasure of working with universities and industry partners who put their hearts into building a healthier and more sustainable game development industry for the next generation. We still have a long way to go, but every year is a step in the right direction,” she added.

A First for Kuala Lumpur: Games for Change Student Game Jam

This year, the Games for Change Student Game Jam Kuala Lumpur, organised in collaboration with Games for Change Hong Kong, will see its debut. Supported by MSU, Playing For The Planet, and Tencent Institute of Games, the initiative is part of the inaugural Games for Change Student Game Jam Asia Series, alongside editions in Singapore and Hong Kong.

With the event open to university students and fresh graduates, the week-long game jam challenges participants to create games addressing real-world environmental issues. Winners will be selected through a combination of jury evaluation and public voting during Indie Jam.

Top teams will receive scholarships from Yayasan MSU, Digital Blacksmith Workshop passes, and the opportunity to showcase their projects at the Games for Change Hong Kong Festival 2026 in May. Participants can also submit their work to global platforms such as the G4C Student Challenge 2026 and Tencent’s Games Without Borders Awards (GWB).

Strengthening Regional Support for Developers

Indie Jam is helping new game developers grow by teaming up with different groups across the region. This time, they are working with gamescom asia x Thailand Game Show to host their first pitch competition. Selected studios will get a chance to show their games at the big event in October 2026.

Indie Jam is working with groups like Women in Games Asia, Outcrowd Malaysia, and Digital Blacksmith School, which will offer mentoring, chances to meet people in the industry, and help with finding jobs. There will also be free talks where experienced developers from Southeast Asia and other places will share their ideas.

Before the main event, Indie Jam Direct will go live on March 28, 2026, at 9PM (GMT+8) on The Magic Rain’s YouTube channel. This one-hour show will give a preview of games and activities, and also start the Indie Jam Steam event, which runs from March 28 to April 12, 2026.

After the main event, things will continue online with After Jam, a week-long livestream from April 6 to April 12, 2026. More details can be found via the official website.
