Sony Interactive Entertainment has introduced the PlayStation Family app, a new mobile tool designed to help families enjoy gaming together while maintaining safe and healthy play habits.
Available now on the Google Play Store and App Store, the app builds on existing console parental controls to give parents and kids more ways to connect, manage, and understand gaming experiences. The app brings forward a simpler way for families to keep track of playtime, set limits, and more safe features.
One of the standout additions is the activity dashboard, which shows a child’s weekly playtime in an easy-to-read format. Another exclusive feature, “Playing Now,” lets parents see what their kids are currently playing, encouraging more open discussions about game choices.

Beyond just restrictions, Sony highlights the app as a tool to “build trust and bond” between parents and kids. By offering features that balance freedom with safety, it aims to strengthen family connections through gaming rather than just limit access.
This move is also part of PlayStation’s broader commitment to online safety. Alongside the new app, Sony is testing features like Nudge and working with organizations such as Save the Children Sweden to support positive play.
These efforts fall under its three core safety pillars: Control Your Experience, Shield Our Players, and Enforce Our Standards. With the PlayStation Family app, Sony is looking beyond the console to create a safer digital environment where players of all ages can thrive. More updates and improvements are expected in the future.
